Is there anything more stressful than moving? Ask most people and you’ll get a powerful and resounding, ‘No!’

Moving can cause so much chaos that 58% of people surveyed said they thought moving is more stressful than planning a wedding.

But there are a few things you can do to make the packing and moving process easier on yourself and your family. Keep reading to learn more.

1. Create a Schedule

Moving might not be the most fun thing in the world, but putting off your responsibilities until the last minute can make the experience even more of a pain. The sooner you start packing, the easier moving day will be.

Give yourself at least a few weeks to pack everything up. Take it room by room.

Start a few weeks in advance and aim to dedicate a half-hour each day to pack. 30 minutes isn’t a lot of time, but it’ll add up before you know it.

2. Pack the Essentials Separately

As you start packing, think about the things you’ll need the day and night of your move. Items like toiletries, a change of clothes, clean bedsheets, and so on.

Place these items to the side and pack them in a separate box. That way, you won’t have to dig through a mountain of boxes to find your pajamas after moving day.

3. Always Get an Estimate

Most people opt to hire movers to make the process easier. While that’s a great idea, if you’re not careful, it can cause even more unneeded stress.

To make sure you’re getting the best bargain, always ask for an estimate before hiring a moving company. Most are more than happy to provide a rough estimate, and some companies, like Browning Moving, can even give you an estimate via video chat for added convenience.

Like with packing, the sooner you reach out, the better. Getting an estimate ahead of time gives you more time to budget.

4. Invest in Moving Insurance

In the hustle and bustle of packing and moving, it’s so easy to make a careless mistake. But that careless mistake could cost you your most treasured goods.

Moving insurance might seem like a waste of money, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. The great thing is, you might already have coverage through your homeowner’s policy. Double-check your policy before asking your moving company about their offering.

5. Give Yourself Time to Adjust

If you’re moving to start school or a new career, give yourself at least one day after the move to decompress.

Take the day to explore your new neighborhood and its surroundings. Get to know your neighbors and find out what your new home has to offer.

This is especially important for kids, as moving is particularly scary for little ones.

Get a Move on with These Packing and Moving Tips

Sure, these tips won’t make packing and moving fun. But you can believe that they’ll make it a heck of a lot easier. So follow these tips as you begin to prepare for the next chapter in life.

And remember, a move can be exciting. Don’t forget to take a few minutes to soak in your new home.
