There are over 3.5 million truck drivers in the United States. Without truck drivers, the economy would suffer and nearly all businesses would come to a stop.

If you have never considered truck driving, you may be missing out on some amazing benefits.

Scroll down to learn more about the benefits of being a truck driver. Along with the steps to become one!

1. Paid to Travel

One of the best advantages of being a truck driver is that you can discover new areas and explore them.

Getting paid to travel is what some people dream of doing, and they can! Truck driving is a great way to expose yourself to different cultures and atmospheres. Even though you are driving from place to place, you can always stop a moment to take in new scenery.

As you put more time into a company, you may have more say in where you travel and how far you go.

2. You Don’t Have to Socialize as Frequently

If you are shy or just simply prefer working alone, truck driving may be a career for you to pursue.

Most of your time as a truck driver will be in solitude. You will typically get your truck loaded, drive for a long time, drop it off, and travel again. Most of your time will be spent in the truck, away from others.

Being in solitude means that you have more downtime to think and process information. You can listen to video books, talk to others on the radio, or just listen to music to pass the time.

3. Most Jobs Will Pay for Your Fitness

Because most of the job is to sit in a chair all day and drive, companies encourage their drivers to use the gym.

Many, but not all, trucking companies give free memberships or discounts to local gyms. This gives their employees the chance to get into shape and focus on their health.

Being in a truck for long periods can take a toll on the body. But with proper exercise and stretching, driving shouldn’t be bothersome. Optimal physical health and eyesight are necessary to be successful in this position.

4. Good Pay

Are you tired of working endlessly for minimum wage?

Becoming a truck driver can get you out of minimum wage. Even if you are just starting, yearly pay is around $35,000. However, it is easy to make more than $35,000 and many people do so quickly after starting.

Truck driving incomes are expected to continue rising, especially with how many businesses are transporting goods. If you put in enough time and energy, you may be able to make $100,000 annually!

5. Steady Work

If you are sick of getting laid off or running out of work, a truck driving position is something to consider!

Truck driving employment rates are up and not expected to go anywhere anytime soon. There may be slower times for work during the year, but trucking jobs are consistent and don’t need to lay people off.

Even if self-driving cars become more capable and popular, there will still be a need for truck drivers.

The only people that have to worry about their trucking job is if they work at an under-performing company or don’t maintain their standards. It is important to take your time during the interviewing process to ensure that the company will be a good fit for you.

Asking questions about their slower periods and how often people get laid off can bring you a lot of insight into the company.

6. You Recieve Benefits

Truck driving, like many other jobs, comes with several benefits that a more than worth it.

Depending on the company that you work for, you can receive some of the best medical and dental insurance out there. Many companies also pay gym memberships to help keep employees happy and healthy.

Retirement savings plans, time off, and free training are also included in many trucking jobs. Although you typically don’t need a college education, some companies will even offer tuition reimbursement.

How to Become a Truck Driver

If you are considering being a truck driver, the following steps are the most common way to do so.

Even if you don’t have any college education, you can typically find a truck driving position. Most driver positions require you to have a high school diploma or equivalent.

You will also need a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history. If you have multiple accidents or DUIs on your record, you will likely be passed over. Even after you have a license, you will need to get a CDL.

Depending on the company you apply for, you can take these courses through the company or a third party. Once you have passed a road and written test, you will be on your way to becoming a truck driver.

Those looking to kick-start their truck driving careers should visit Hazmat CDL Jobs to apply!

After truck driving courses are completed, you will then begin training with the company.

Being a Truck Driver Never Seemed so Good

Have you ever considered being a truck driver?

Maybe you haven’t considered it until now. However, there are many reasons why you should pursue this career.

If you enjoy seeing the world and traveling, you can get paid to do so! Being a truck driver allows you to explore unknown areas. You can also work independently without others constantly around.

Becoming a truck driver is simple if you have a clean record and can pass a knowledge and driving test. Once you have been certified, you are ready for the road.
