  • Invisalign: The Tooth Alignment of the Future

Have you ever seen a celebrity or movie star with crooked teeth? If you have, they’re few and far between.

Beautiful and straight teeth have always been desirable. The process of bracing and aligning teeth has its roots in Ancient Egypt. Alignment has come a long way — from gold and crude metals to Invisalign trays.

So, what does the modern-day Invisalign process consist of exactly? Does Invisalign hurt? Learn everything you need to know below.

Why Tooth Alignment Matters

Why have different cultures around the world put such a priority on aligning their teeth? Is the process and procedure for cosmetic-purposes only?

According to orthodontists, straight teeth aren’t only appealing, they’re healthy. The proper tooth alignment staves off:

  • Tooth decay
  • Cavities
  • Jaw pain
  • TMJ
  • Headaches
  • Heart disease
  • Gum disease

When your teeth get crowded, it becomes more difficult to keep them clean. Gaps also make it easier for bacteria to thrive and food to hide. Over time, this bacteria can increase your chances of getting gum disease.

Without proper care, gum disease will wreak havoc in your mouth. It can also start to cause body-wide issues like heart complications and diabetes.

With that in mind, is it any wonder the Egyptians fastened golden braces to their mummies?

Understanding the Invisalign Process

The good news is that modern technology has moved us past the metal braces phase. Now, we have Invisalign.

Invisalign is a new process of straightening teeth without the use of metal braces. Instead, the process uses removable trays that you can take in and out. They’re both comfortable and removable.

Here’s an overview of the Invisalign process:

  • An initial consultation with a dentist
  • You’ll get a digital mold of your current teeth
  • You’ll get your first fitting tray
  • Your teeth will slowly get straighter
  • You need to follow-up with your dentist on a regular basis

The whole ordeal is much less invasive than traditional braces.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

It’s difficult for those who’ve never worn traditional metal braces to understand. But, believe us, getting those bad boys tightened is never pleasant. Your mouth usually feels sore for at least a day or two.

So, what about the new Invisalign method? Can you expect the same level of discomfort?

Most patients report feeling little to nothing with the Invisalign trays. Some patients do experience minor pressure on the first day. But, your teeth don’t shift as much with Invisalign as they do with traditional braces.

So, the pressure-related discomfort is minimal. On top of that, Invisalign trays do not have pokey metal pieces or sharp spots. Usually, these factors make traditional braces very uncomfortable.

Invisalign: The Tooth Alignment of the Future

Invisalign is the trendy and affordable way to reshape your mouth. It’s safe and effective. But, does Invisalign hurt? You may feel a little pressure on the first day of a new tray, but it’s nothing like traditional braces.
