If you own a business and don’t have a website, you’re behind the times. Almost everything can be done through the internet now, from booking appointments to buying products online, and lots of people prefer it that way.

You need an internet presence, but how do you get there?

Small business web design mistakes are all too common. Sure, you’re a guru in your field, but you didn’t sign up to design web pages!

While challenging, it isn’t impossible to create a website that is attractive, user-friendly, and successful. Read on to discover five big mistakes that small businesses tend to make when designing a website.

1. Using Poor Quality Images

The images that you put on your website are critical to pulling your visitor in and keeping them on the page. If your web design includes outdated, blurry, or poor quality pictures, you may look unprofessional.

There is a multitude of options if you’re looking for free images available online.

2. Not Seeking Professional Help

By all means, if you have the capabilities to design a website, you should do it. It will save you money and you’ll be able to boast about your new skills.

But as a small business owner, you know that there are already a bunch of things to juggle. Now you have to learn web design too?

There are plenty of options online for easy to design webpages. These pages may not look the best, but can get your information out there if you’re on a limited budget.

If you’re like many of us and not tech-savvy, find a reputable web design company to get you set up for success. If you have the funds to hire someone who does this for a living, you won’t regret it.

3. Confusing Call to Action

Your visitors should be able to get onto your webpage and easily access the products and information that they need.

You’re designing a website for a reason, right? Whether you are expanding, trying to create more traffic, or just opening your business, you want customers to be clear on what it is you’re offering.

Make sure that your call to action (CTA) is transparent and visible.

4. Too Much or Too Little Going On

When people open your website, you want them to be drawn in.

You don’t want to overstimulate your customer by having several colors, multiple buttons, different types of font, or a confusing layout. If they can’t figure out what’s going on the page or what your mission is, they’ll likely leave.

On the other hand, you don’t want too little on a page. If your page has a whole bunch of white space and no color, you may not be taken seriously.

5. Tricky Navigation

Your website should make it easy for your patrons to get from page to page to find what they are looking for.

If you have a hidden navigation menu, it becomes not user-friendly.

Small Business Web Design Success

For a small business, web design can be a crucial part of you getting your product or information out to the masses.

With a proper website, you’ll be able to grow your business and reach more customers. If your webpages are messy and confusing, visitors will easily pass on by.
