After looking at what took place on January 6th, a lot of people were wondering if there would ever be a peaceful transition of power in this country. Fortunately, the new administration has taken over and appears that things have died. Unfortunately, this does not necessarily mean that the political parties in this country are going to come together and work together.
If an attempted coup without enough to force the political parties to come together and shake hands, is anything going to bring them back together? In order for the political parties to come together, there are a few things that have to happen. There are already groups, such as No Labels, that are looking for ways to bring these parties together. That way, Something Good Can Happen in this country.
Both Parties Must Discipline Their Own Members
First, both political parties need to discipline their members and hold them accountable for their transgressions. Right now, there is not a lot of that going on. There are many actions that have been taken by lawmakers during the past few months that could be considered crimes. Yet, it seems like political parties are not even willing to censure their members. If political parties are not able to do that, there is going to be a lot of infighting. Furthermore, political parties will simply be playing political football because the other party will call out other members’ transgressions. Are political parties going to censure their members? Will they ever hold them accountable for their actions? It will be interesting to see if this happens.
Both Parties Must Address the Major Issues of the Past Before Moving Forward
There’s a lot of talk about moving forward. Even though this is important, this cannot happen unless the major issues of the past have been addressed. There is a saying in history that people who do not learn from the past will be doomed to repeat it. Therefore, it is important for members of both political parties to come together and investigate exactly what happened. Otherwise, it is simply going to happen again. If political parties are not willing to fully investigate these big issues, the country is never going to be able to heal. Before the country can move forward, it is important for political leaders to be willing to step up, admit what they did wrong, and then move forward.
Both Political Parties Must Call Out Lies for What They Are
Another major issue that is preventing political parties from coming together has to do with lies. There is a lot of misinformation out there. Political leaders should not amplify lies. Unfortunately, too many of them are responsible for creating them, let alone amplifying them.
If political leaders are not going to call out lies for what they are, the country is never going to come together. Local leaders should not have to rely on journalists to fact-check them. They should be fact-checking themselves. Even though there are a lot of echo chambers on the internet, Congress is not the internet. It is important for political leaders to call out lies for what they are. That way, they will be able to bring their constituents closer to the center.
Both Parties Must Look to the Future
Finally, both political parties need to look to the future. Even though the past four years have been a major challenge, there is a new administration in power. This could mean a return to the status quo. For political parties to heal, it is important to take a look at the current issues and come together. If political leaders continue to hold grudges, the country will never be able to heal. The country deserves better. The people deserve better. Fortunately, there are some groups in place that are already looking for ways to foster a culture of bipartisanship. It is going to be interesting to see if this actually happens in the years to come.
The Parties in This Country Must Come Together
These are just a few of the biggest things the political parties in this country have to do to come together. The country is in better hands when people are willing to work together. Right now, we have more people on the extremes than we ever have in the past. In order to fix this issue, both political parties need to discipline their members, fully investigate the issues of the past, call out lies for what they are, and then look to the Future. If the political parties can do exactly that, the country is going to be in a better place. It will be interesting to see what happens moving forward.
