For many of us, winter sports are our method of escape. As such, now is the exact time we need such a route out, isn’t it?
As we all know, there are far more considerations to take into account based on the present, worldwide situation. Through today’s post we are going to analyze some of the factors you need to be looking into if you are considering a winter sporting holiday at any point in 2021.
Your paperwork is more important than ever
Firstly, let’s start with the so-called boring stuff. As tedious as it might be, it is now more important than ever before to make sure that your paperwork is in complete order.
Of course, your travel insurance mainly falls into this category. Make sure it covers you for every eventuality and be sure to check out staysure.co.uk who provide good guidance on the topic. You may also now want to consider annual cover, just in case you are forced into rescheduling your break.
The self-drive option might be your safest bet
It’s not the easiest method of travel, and if you haven’t done it before it will certainly take it out of you. However, with air travel being questionable at best at the moment, now might be the time to consider a self-drive option to the mountains.
Sure, there are other logistical points to consider here. For example, few people will complete the journey in one go, and will require stops in a couple of hotels.
However, this will be on your own terms. You’ll be able to decide where to stop, and particularly as some areas are struggling more than others, this could make your entire journey feel a whole lot safer.
You might have to adapt with your ‘type’ of winter sport
Something that grabbed the headlines in December was the decision by much of Europe to close the ski lifts. Granted, there were one or two exceptions, but most of the popular destinations opted to completely close.
Did this mean that you couldn’t visit the areas in question? Not necessarily. While there were all sorts of border controls which restricted some people, and not others, many of the resorts were still advertising other activities. It may have been trekking through the snow or basic sledging; as long as it didn’t rely on the ski lifts, it was generally permitted.
Bearing this in mind, now is the time to shift your mentality. While we don’t know if the authorities are going to repeat such rules, having other winter sports in the back of your mind before you travel is a good way to avoid potential disappointment.
Don’t be surprised by the competition
Finally, the term ‘book early to avoid disappointment’ has never been more appropriate. Many believe that they can leave their booking to the last minute, as so few people would even be contemplating traveling under such uncertain circumstances. As it turns out, everybody is thinking along the same lines.
Ski resorts are receiving a lot of reservations (with many transferred from last year) and leaving your decision late is unlikely to result in much success. Unfortunately, while there is an element of risk based on the current situation, biting the bullet might be the course of action that serves you the best.
