With approximately 43% of all cyberattacks aimed at small businesses, you can’t afford not to have a cybersecurity plan. Small business security is no longer an option for business owners who utilize any web service, software, storage, or other application. If you think it’s time to reevaluate your small business security, then keep reading.

Here are five business security tips to help you build a more robust cybersecurity system for your valuable business data.

1.Enforce Strong Password Creation

Your first line of defence with any account is a strong password. Implement mandatory password updates and teach your employees about creating and remembering strong passwords. Understanding more about enterprise password management is a guaranteed way to improve your business’s cybersecurity.

2.Use Two-Step Verification

Two-step verification can help stop hackers from accessing your business accounts. The second layer of business security is provided by sending a unique code as a text message to your smartphone. That code is then used to verify the user of the account from their internet browser. That code will stop cybercriminals who may already have your main password. Two-step verification has become commonplace security technology for most Microsoft, Google, and Apple accounts.

3.Manage Business Security Updates

If your business is connected to the Internet, then your business will be vulnerable to cybersecurity attacks. It is often the most used feature for exploitation by hackers. That said, you will need to screen the components of your business computers. Check all operating systems and security software and hardware for updates. Security software companies will provide you with updates. As they collect more and more data on your business, they provide you with better business cybersecurity options.

4.Install VPNs for Remote Employees

If you currently have employees working remotely, you don’t know what level of security the internet connection they are using has. Install virtual private network, or VPN, software on every PC or laptop that your employees are using to access your office servers. This will allow your employees to take advantage of public Wi-Fi services safely.

5.Always Backup Your Business Data

Do you know where your companies data is stored? Is it on-site or in the cloud? Do you know what data storage options are available to you as a small business owner? Knowing who has control over your data storage and how often it is backed up is key to ensuring the best data protection for your business.

Continue To Educate Yourself and Your Employees

The surest way to creating more robust business security is through continuing education. Empower your employees through business cybersecurity training. It will provide them with the confidence they need to understand more about common cybersecurity attacks.
