4 “Un-” Outcomes of Deficient Employee Training

Outcomes of Deficient Employee Training

Employees are very essential. Without them, how will a company be called a “company”? Before a company has gotten all the employees it has right now, they underwent screenings and interviews because an employer can’t just hire whosoever without the qualities and the potentials demanded by the vacant position. As an employer, you know that.

Job applicants who got hired have the potentials, but of course, they’re not yet their best versions upon entering the job (probably except if they’ve been working that same job for centuries the time they applied). What I’m saying is there are things not all of them know or can accomplish yet. That is why proper training is important. Briefing employees regarding their job, letting them know every essential responsibility and training their abilities even before getting into the work ground itself are all tremendously significant. When employee training is not given attention, it affects the employees big time and the company as a whole.

How and why? Take a look at this list containing 4 effects of employee training deficiency and insufficiency.

1 – UNCONFIDENT EMPLOYEES

Do you know the feeling of doing something you don’t really know about or you know only a bit? It doesn’t feel right, right? There’s anxiety. It makes you paranoid that you are doing the whole thing wrongly. It makes you doubt yourself and your abilities.

Employee training is where employees are oriented and informed from the the littlest to the biggest detail they have to know regarding their work. It’s where an employee who starts from scratch or who is new to the kind of job starts. This training is fundamental so that an employee will know where his/her skills and knowledge of the job stand and of course, so that he/she will be prepared and his/her abilities enhanced before performing the actual, official work.

If one isn’t so sure about the task you’ve given him/her, there’s a possibility that he/she will be shy or afraid to ask, contemplating if you’ve taught him/her before how to do the task (but you really didn’t). Employees will turn out to be doubtful of their capabilities and suitability to the job they are in. If they’re afraid to inquire, they won’t approach.

2 – UNPRODUCTIVE WORKERS

If employees are not given the right and complete training before they are stationed in their job, they may be unproductive in two ways. One, they can do the job and accomplish it immediately, but the results wouldn’t be the best — only average or not even. Two, they can accomplish it and the results would be satisfying to best, but the completion period is long.

A lot of time will be consumed by them asking those who are knowledgeable. They’ll spend so much time understanding what to do when they should have already begun executing the tasks.

A good kind of productivity is balanced in terms of quality and time. Yes, slow progress is still progress, but when it comes to “work”, there are deadlines and submissions needed to be met.

3 – UNSOUND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This effect is more likely to happen in jobs that require a lot of physical effort and manpower — those that demand physical fitness, strength and capacity to get accomplished. If some employees do not know the exact task or the procedures to perform it, all of the employees safety and security could be at risk, most especially if the task needs a group effort.

Mishaps and accidents are just around the nearest corner if employees aren’t trained well. News reports company accidents due to electrical shock or fall while working. Employees must fully know and grasp how machines, buttons, vehicles and other equipment function. They must be aware of the restricted areas or those that oblige everyone a proper suit before entering.

If employees are trained, they will also be reminded of the solutions and the preventive measures to carry out in case of emergency. If untrained employees respond to unfortunate occurrences in the workplace, situations could get worse.

4 – UNSATISFIED CLIENTS

If employees are unproductive, it just means lessened production in quantity or quality or both. It’s without a doubt to think that clients won’t get affected. Customers are in need of the best quality in the shortest time possible. People have gotten more demanding nowadays, and untrained employees may not be enough to those rising demands. That leads to customers transferring to other companies or suppliers.

Of course, this is the biggest negative effect having deficient employee training can have on the company. Why? How will the company generate income without their clients? I don’t know if there’s any other way, but, this one’s probably one of the worsts if not the worst.

Conclusion

The employer, in coordination with its Human Resources Department, is responsible for proper and full employee training. Employee training is not something to be ignored and taken for granted because it does a lot for the employees, thus for the company.

It must be given utmost importance. It might seem simple and plain as you listen to the term “employee training”, but its effect — just like mentioned above — can reach as far as gaining and losing huge profits and damaging lives if not given relevance and attention.
