Many people dread speaking in front of people because they’re afraid and not good at it. If you’re trying to persuade stakeholders or energize your audience, then monotone speaking and stammering won’t cut it.

If you want to electrify your audience, then you need to learn proper presentation skills. A gifted speaker has the audience rapt in attention and listening to every word they say. That could be you, but only if you follow these presentation tips.

A presentation is a performance, and you need to be the best actor on the stage if you want to win over your audience.

Improving Presentation Skills Requires Practice

No one starts out as an amazing speaker. You must spend hours in front of people practising your speaking and experimenting with different techniques until you find one that works for you.

You can join a local Toastmasters Club, or you and other friends or employees can practice speaking in front of each other. You can get their opinion on your presentation and vice versa.

If you want to learn from the best then get training from Moxie Institute. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice what you learned.

Create a Visual Presentation

Speaking is only one part of a successful presentation. You also need to create an engaging visual presentation using PowerPoint or other software. The easiest presentation uses lots of text, but that’s boring and you’ll lose your audience.

You need pictures and infographics that are colourful and help engage the audience. The colours and images help break the blocks of text in the presentation.

Don’t go overboard and use lots of fancy transitions or vibrant colours as they could irritate the audience.

Be Yourself

You’re a fun person. You have your own quirks and idiosyncrasies that separate you from other people. Use these in your presentation because it shows off who you are. A presentation should be passionate and engaging for the audience, so be animated and active.

You need to be excited about the information in your presentation. People also want eye contact. That doesn’t mean staring at one person the entire time but move your eyes around the room. It makes your presentation feel personal as if you’re talking right to them.

Allow for Questions and Comments

No matter how well you do on your presentation, your audience likely has questions. If the presentation is short, then have a Q & A session at the end. If it’s a longer presentation or is complicated, allow for questions at the end of major sections.

If you just end your presentation, then it annoys the audience, and they leave confused about certain aspects.

Use These Presentation Tips

A proper business presentation can drastically change the course of a company. The information is only part of the solution. Your presentation skills can make or break the success of your company, especially if you’re looking for funding.
