When was the last time you got a good night’s sleep?

If your spouse is a snorer, you’re likely going out of your mind with the need for just one quiet, peaceful night. All you want to do is sleep without being disturbed, and all you get each night is a human lawnmower sleeping blissfully beside you.

You’re not imagining it: Your partner’s snoring may actually be ruining your relationship. Read on to learn how to keep your snoring husband quiet at night, short of kicking him out of your bed or snapping at him in the middle of the night.

1. Your Snoring Spouse Cant Snack Before Bed

Does your honey drink or snack before bed?

If so, convince him to stop food intake at dinner. If he must snack, he should do it well before bedtime.

When a person eats food right before bed, some tiny food particles can stay lodged in their throat, or the consistency of their saliva can change. Each of those issues leads to snoring.

Your hubby should avoid dairy, alcohol, and sweets before bed. Alcohol and sweets can cause him to sleep more deeply, which makes his snoring more prominent. Meanwhile, dairy changes the PH and consistency of saliva, which can make it more difficult for a person to breathe well while asleep.

2. Get Him To Use Nasal Strips

If your husband’s snoring is only mildly annoying, he might be able to reduce it with an over-the-counter remedy. For instance, certain nasal strips created especially for snorers work by opening up a person’s airways while they sleep.

However, nasal strips are not meant to fix intense snoring. People who snore loudly and chronically need to seek medical help for an underlying issue.

3. Send Your Snoring Husband For A Sleep Study

If your husband’s snoring keeps you up every night, he likely has a medical condition.

The most commonly diagnosed condition that causes snoring is Obstructive Sleep Apnea. When a person has this sleep disorder, they stop breathing for brief periods in their sleep. Both the snoring and breath pauses happen because the muscles in the back of the throat collapse and close off the airway.

There’s no real cure to Obstructive Sleep Apnea other than weight loss (most people who have this sleep disorder are overweight).

However, a proven nightly treatment for Sleep Apnea is a CPAP machine. This device supplies constant positive air pressure through a mask, which keeps the throat muscles from collapsing. This eliminates the snoring.

Sleep Apnea can only be diagnosed through a sleep study. It can also be fatal if undiagnosed, and it can cause other medical issues such as weight gain and hypertension. So get your hubby on board with a sleep study soon.

4. Convince The Snorer To See A Dentist

Did you know that snoring can also be an oral issue?

Some people can resolve their snoring by simply wearing a mouthguard. Though there are plenty of generic mouth guards sold at pharmacies, they aren’t as effective as a custom fit guard.

If your husband pays a visit to a dentist like Dr. Chris Mott, he can be diagnosed and fitted with the proper treatment guard. Individualized treatment such as this can keep your husband from trying out various products on the market that are a hit or miss.

Ready For A Silent Night?

Hopefully, your snoring husband will soon turn back into the irresistible prince charming you married ages ago. The above suggestions can give you both some insight into his condition, as well as some ideas on how to resolve it.

In the meantime, come back to our blog daily for more tips and tricks on anything from medicine to relationships to life in general.
