There is a whole list of types of cheese cutting. We can say that it has become a tradition. After all, if you cut such a delicate product incorrectly, you will simply spoil it. To prevent this from happening, you need to know the secrets of cutting any cheese.

It turns out that the technique of cutting cheese directly depends on its shape. If you do not take this key point into account, you most likely will not be able to fully enjoy the aroma and richness of the taste of a particular type of cheese.

Certain types of cheese have a specific structure and are not easy to slice. They either crumble, or annoyingly stick to the knife, or lose their original shape. Here are a few “cheesy” tricks that can be very useful to you.

To serve cheese use a wood charcuterie board – your guests will appreciate it!

What you need to know about slicing cheeses

So we come to the question of how cheese varieties differ. After all, it depends on the method of cutting. And every housewife wants the cheese on her table to look aesthetically pleasing and serve as a real culinary decoration.

Round, small and flat cheeses

Before slicing soft round cheeses, put the knife into hot water. A small, soft cheese like camembert is properly cut into even slices in a triangular shape (like you cut a cake). Cheese should be cut from the middle to the edges. Do not forget that the knife must be very well sharpened. If you have just such cheese, the main thing is that it does not stick to the knife. Therefore, as mentioned above, the knife must be in hot water before cutting.

Cut brie cheese

Brie cheese and similar ones – large and round – are cut into large slices, and then they are divided in half using a special string or a perforated knife. In this cutting option, it is also useful to hold the knife in hot water. Alternatively, brush the blade with olive oil.

Cylindrical cheese

These include, for example, goat cheese. Cheeses of this group are cut as an ingredient in salads or on toasts. This cheese is delicate and should not be cut into very thin slices so as not to spoil its appearance. You will need an unusually sharp and moistened knife. It is recommended to moisten it before each cut so that the cheese does not crumble and is not sticky.

Manchego-type hard cheese

Hard cheeses are traditionally cut into triangles. Experts advise doing this at room temperature. During the production process, hard cheese is pressed. And its density depends on age: the “older” the cheese, the higher its density. So, aged dense cheese is cut with a special knife with two handles.

First you need to cut the cheese head in half, then – into four parts. And now – each part into identical triangles five millimeters thick.

Sliced Parmesan Cheese

Parmesan also belongs to hard cheeses, it has a spicy taste. It is usually consumed as an accompaniment to pasta, lasagna and other dishes related to Italian cuisine. Parmesan does not have to be chopped (especially for the listed dishes). It can be grated or cut into small chips.

Blue cheese with mold

Meaning Roquefort and Dorblu. These cheeses are semi-hard, with a high percentage of fat. Cutting them presents certain difficulties. It is unlikely that you will get perfectly even slices. In this case, it is convenient to use a wire knife. If you have blue cheese in a package, you can put it on its side and cut into a fan. Here is another useful tip for slicing any cheese. It turns out that dental floss is perfect for this purpose (only you should choose a thread without flavoring).

How to cut cheese with dental floss

  • Tear off the floss a little longer than your cheese
  • Run the floss along an imaginary cut line

Now you will not have any crumbs, broken pieces and waste of your favorite cheese. It will always look aesthetically pleasing and appetizing as an independent dish and as an ingredient too. Prepared with Royal Craft Wood company.
