Are you still a beginner with Excel but, despite this, have you been given the task of working on a spreadsheet containing many decimal places to round? Don’t panic right away. Excel includes many options for automatic calculations, and among these, there is the one for rounding numbers. how to round to the nearest hundred in 2021. If you want to know more, read the guide I am about to offer you, and in no time, you will also learn how to round to the nearest hundred in Excel, both those already present in the spreadsheet you need to work on and those to be typed later in it. The indications you will find below are valid for all editions, more or less recent, of Excel.

I will use 2016, but the steps to be taken and the formulas to be used are the same in the previous and subsequent versions of the program.

I will also show you how to round the figures in the online version of Excel and the mobile version, available for smartphones and tablets. Eager to get started? Well, you find everything explained in the lines to come. Let’s start the process.

Getting know: how to round to the nearest hundred in Excel in 2021

Suppose you want to find out how to round in Excel. In that case, you have to go to the spreadsheet cell where you want to display the result of the operation. Then enter the following formula: = ROUND (num; num_digits), where the number in place of num rounded. Instead of num_digits, the number of decimal places from which the calculation result composed.

Most important part

Going into more detail, 0 allows you to get whole numbers; numbers greater than zero will enable you to round to the specified number of decimal places. In contrast, numbers less than zero allow you to round to the left of the decimal point. As can be easily understood, after typing the formula, the Enter key on the keyboard is pressing to confirm.

Let’s take a practical example if you want to round 27.07 to an integer. It would help if you used the formula = ROUND (27.07; 0). Which will return you the result 27. If you want to round 27.777 to a number with two decimal places, you have to use the formula = ROUND (27.777; 2).

Which will return you the result 27.78, while if you want to round 27.777 to one decimal place to the left of the decimal point, you must use the formula = ROUND (30.8, -1). Which will return you the result 30.

Note: If you need to round some digits already in the workbook. It would help if you replaced the formula’s num value with the cell’s coordinates containing the number to rounded. For example, to round the digit in cell B2 to an integer, you need to use the formula = ROUND (B2; 0).

Which thing we should know –  how to round to the nearest hundred in 2021

There are also other interesting formulas, which allow you to round the figures in Excel sheets automatically. For example, to round the absolute value of a number up. Just use the formula that instead of num is the digit to be rounded and instead of num_digits the number of decimal places from which the calculation result must be composed (as explained above).

For example, to round 27.07 up to an integer (hence 28 ), you would type the formula .= CEILING (num ; num_digits) = CEILING (27.07 , 0).

On the other hand, to round the absolute value of a number down. It would help if you used the formula, where instead of num goes the digit to be rounded. Instead of num_digits, the number of decimals from which the calculation result must be composed (always following the same mechanism illustrated in the previous bars). For example, to round 27.07 down to an integer (hence 27 ), you would type the formula .= ROUNDDOWN (num ; num_digits) = ROUNDDOWN (27.07 , 0)

Note:

Finally, I’ll point out the formula for rounding a number to a specific multiple, such as the nearest 0.5: = ROUND.MULTIPLE (num; num_digits), where instead of num goes the digit to be rounded and instead of num_digits the multiple to use for the calculation. For example, to round 27.8 to the nearest 0.5 , you need to use the formula = AROUND (27.8; 0.5), which returns the value 28.

How to round to the nearest hundred in 2021 in excel in online

I also point out that it is possible to automatically round all the figures typed in a specific row or column of the spreadsheet. Just select the desired row or column (e.g., one or A ) and click on the Decrease decimals button in the Excel toolbar’s Home section (the icon with the three zeros and the blue arrow pointing to the right).

This way, the digits typed in the selected cells is rounding up using the desired number of decimal places. It is also possible to reduce the digits until they are automatically transforming  into whole numbers, always rounded up.

Once the document is open. You can use the rounding formulas illustrated in the chapter of the tutorial. It is dedicating to Excel for computer: = ROUND (num; num_digits). where instead of num goes the number to rounding and instead of num_digits the number of decimals from which the calculation result composing).

Final verdict on how to round to the nearest hundred in 2021

Who doesn’t love to learn excel. Excel is one of the powerful software for finance and our daily work. In this topic, we will try to give this solution. If you were already reading this you might know.
