I learn the importance of learning languages via an incident that happened while my sister was traveling in Pakistan. One day, my sister went to a restaurant to have her lunch. Unfortunately, while eating some Pakistani dish, the food got stuck in her friend’s throat. As a result, she had difficulty breathing, and let’s say she was choking. But while she was struggling and my sister continuously told that her friend was choking, no one came to their rescue as they could not understand what she was trying to say. My sister did not know how to speak Urdu( Urdu is the primary language of Pakistan). I must express my sister is a smart one as at that moment, she pulled out her phone and found out choking meaning in Urdu. There were several options, and she selected one which she thought was suitable according to their situation.
Choking Meaning In Urdu
After saying it in Urdu, the surrounding people did not waste any more time and helped them. My sister’s meaning was “Dam ghatney ka ehsas peda karne wala,” which means that something is making a person feel suffocated or, in short, a person is feeling suffocated and having difficulty in breathing. So, we can say one of the choking meanings in Urdu is dam ghatney ka ehsas peda karne wala.
We use the word choking in various aspects of our life. Though we use the word choking to express the feeling of suffocation, difficulty in breathing, strangulation, or throttling, there are still other meanings of this word. We can also use choking to express indistinct utterance, which means a person can not express his or her thoughts as the voice is affected by intense emotion. It is also similar to numb. It indicates when a person wants to communicate a lot but can not do so. All the words are stuck in their throats due to unpleasant emotions. So, we can use choking to indicate a situation where all of the expressions are stuck inside.
To understand this point, I want to share a personal incident. It is the story of one of my friends. After graduating, my best friend shifted to Pakistan as her family moved there not too long ago. Soon she started her searching for suitable jobs to earn her livelihood and support her family. As she was a non-resident in Pakistan, she did not know how to speak Urdu well. Though she could converse in basic Urdu that she learned after staying there for a while, she had to face difficulties in most other aspects.
What does Choking Mean In Urdu?
As a result, her family appointed a translator for her. The translator helped her understand and teach Urdu for the time being. As I said before, as she was a new graduate, she searched for a job in Pakistan. She successfully got shortlisted for a job, and the respective authority called her for an interview. As she was not that good in Urdu, she took her translator with her while attending the interview, and after trying a bit, she also got permission. However, while she was in the middle of her interview, she received a call from her family.
With the authorization of the interviewer, she accepted the call. There she got the news that her grandmother had died. As a result, she became overcome with excess grief, and she choked up in her words. As she could not speak anymore, she took the help of her translator, who later told the interviewer her situation and conversed on her behalf. In this case, to express her condition, the translator used “Na mafhuum aawaz” as a choking meaning in Urdu.
The phrase na mafhuum aawaz means the situation where a person is getting overwhelmed with strong emotions. As a result, all his or her words are stuck in his or her throat. He or she cannot express himself or herself. In short, it means all his or her words are choked up inside, and he or she is completely numb. Moreover, na mafhuum aawaz is another choking meaning in Urdu.

Urdu is a rich language with its uniqueness and own words. People of Pakistan prefer to converse in Urdu. Most of them do not even know English let alone other languages. As a result, they were oblivious to the choking meaning in Urdu.
