McAfee Enterprise & FireEye have released their Cybercrime In A Pandemic World: Impact of COVID-19research. This research examines the need for organisations to prioritise, and strengthen their security procedures in advance of the holiday season .

These findings showed that 81% of global organizations experienced an increase in cybersecurity threats during pandemic. The threat levels are expected to continue rising well into the new Year. Businesses can expect an increase in cyber threats as leaders and employees count down the days to the holiday season. These are the key findings:

  • More than half (51%) of Australian organizations have experienced downtime as a result of a cyber-related concern in the past 18 months. 82% of these occurred during peak season.
  • 83% of Australian IT professionals believe that maintaining a fully-staffed security team during peak periods is more difficult than it should be.
  • 87% of Australian IT professionals expect a moderate to substantial impact on their businesses due to the holiday season’s increased demand for their services and products.
  • Cyber threats to supply chain, travel and ecommerce are creating a “Everything Shortage” holiday season.

“Australians are excited to enjoy the holiday season after a difficult lockdown period in 2021. They also want to spend some of their savings on treasured activities. This will be a huge opportunity for cyber criminals to exploit businesses that are more concerned with their bottom line than their cybersecurity infrastructure. Businesses of all sizes must keep cybersecurity in mind.” Bastian Schmederer is Senior Regional Director for Australia & New Zealand at McAfee Enterprise.

Matthew stated, “It is crucial that every business of scale evaluates and prioritizes security technology to keep themselves protected, especially during peak season like the holidays.”

Cybercrime is a growing problem. While the internet has provided many opportunities, it has also led to many new crimes such as identity theft, fraud online and scams.

Many businesses have lost millions of dollars due to online scams. There are many types of cyber-attacks that can be used against businesses, including online phishing, Malware Lures, Cyber threats and Spyware. Businesses need to be able to understand the different types of cyber-attacks and how they work.

Cybercriminals are always innovating new ways to use the Internet to commit crimes. They continue to find new ways of attacking businesses based in Australia, causing financial as well as personal loss. Every day, there are many types of crime and attacks around the globe. Australia is no exception. Online criminals can target individuals and businesses, which can have serious consequences for both the person and the company.

CEO Tech Business News stated that Australia is doing everything possible to combat cybercrime.

A business should understand the impact of the Internet and technology on everything they do. They should be cautious about what they post online, and take all precautions to avoid any potential harm.

This is the only way Australia can be safe from cyber-criminality’s global threats. Every business should do everything they can to ensure their safety.

Businesses should inform their employees about online crime prevention and the various types of cybercrime. They should also work closely with law enforcement to arrest criminals and stop illegal distribution of proprietary and confidential information.

Cybercrime is a serious problem that Australia has to deal with every day. It is essential that all businesses work together to tackle this issue on an ongoing basis.

Australia fights back

Cybercrimes have been a problem in Australia and the United States for a while. Both sides have found the Internet a huge source of revenue. This has created many problems such as fraud, identity theft, and money laundering.

Cybercriminals have gained access to sensitive and personal information in individuals’ computer systems. Cybercrime is a constant battle between law enforcement agencies, the private sector, governments, and cyber criminals.

Australia is working to educate people about the dangers of internet use.

A number of education and awareness-raising websites have been published by the Australian government to help consumers use the internet safely. According to the Australian government, a lack in technological literacy can lead to more Internet frauds.

Australian officials have also announced several public information portals that will provide more detailed information about cyber threats. These portals are intended to protect individual privacy and increase information sharing on the Internet.
