What is Xanthan gum?

Xanthan gum is a polysaccharide with industrial uses, including as a natural food additive. It is the most effective binding agent and stabilizer to prevent ingredients from separating. It has the chemical formula of C35H49O29 (monomer). Also, it has a high molecular mass of 933.748 g·mol−1.  Xanthan gum is making by fermenting some carbohydrate (a substance that contains sugar) with Xanthomas campestral bacteria, then processing it. . It is also safe when taken as a medicine up to 15 grams per day

Why do we want to substitute xanthan gum?

Now I will share some of the most prominent features showing why we want to substitute xanthan gum. There I will share some of the side effects of xanthan gum due to which people do not like to use xanthan gum in their daily live routine.

  • Xanthan gum is used for diabetes and many other conditions, but there is no perfect scientific prove to support most of these uses.
  • Although Xanthan gum is quite amazing for use, it causes digestive issues. The digesting problems include increased frequency of bowel movements, increased stool output, softer stools, increased gas, etc.
  • These people are fine to use some foods with xanthan gum, but they should take precaution with large amounts of it until its effect on blood sugar is better understood.
  • While Simply Thick is safe for use in adults, infants should avoid it since their guts are developing. However, it damages the health of infants.
  • While xanthan gum gives emulsifying properties, it is a type of carbohydrate known as a polysaccharide. It is also causing gut bacteria, drive intestinal inflammation, and worsen conditions, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
  • Xanthan gum can cause migraines or skin irritations. Although, its side effects also include intestinal gas, flatulence, and bloating. The increased exposure can make the symptoms
  • Xanthan Gum is expensive as it is costly to produce, and there is a limited supply. Due to limited supply, people cannot afford xanthan gum. Hence, they select substitutes for xanthan gums.

The best substitute for xanthan gum:

Now I will share some of the most superior substitutes for xanthan gum. Although, it is quite significant and essential for binding materials.

Psyllium-husk

Psyllium husk is making from the husks of Plant ago ovata seeds and is selling ground for fermentation purposes. It may also aid in lower blood sugar, as it acts much like the xanthan gum in your gut. It is so making it an excellent substitute for Xanthan gum. On the other hand, large amounts of xanthan gum may relate to digestive and several small studies indicate that sizable doses may help lower blood sugar level.

Chia-seeds and water is a Substitute for xanthan gum:

When soaked, chia seeds make a gel much like xanthan gum. These seeds pack uses a wide range of fibres and gives essential minerals or vitamins. Simultaneously, you can utilize chia seeds and add a bit of crunch and nutty flavor to your recipe.  Therefore, you should grind them if you want to eat a smoother texture. This substitute replaces xanthan gum in a 1:1 ratio. Hence, it is among the best substitute for xanthan gum.

Ground flax seeds along with water:

Like chia, seed makes a thick paste when mixing with water. These substitutes are also comfortable to search for and low in cost. However, these seeds are not good at binding, so you should either make the seeds on your own, sometimes calling a flax meal. You can also find the grinding form substitute. Mixing it with water contents and supports its binding capacity. Keeps in mind that ground flax seeds may makes your recipe a nuttier, slightly gritty quality. However, it is also a perfect substitute for xanthan gum.

Cornstarch

Cornstarch contains a texture same as that of xanthan gum. It is absorbent, converting to a great thickener in stews. Though its best features, some products may be polluting with this protein. If you avoid gluten, make sure to check the label for a certification. Therefore, you can easily use this substitute for xanthium gum. Unlike other reserves, you do not need to grind it with water before use.

Un-flavoured gelatin

Gelatin also aids firm up many dishes because it is making from animal collagen, a jelly-like protein that gives structure to connective tissues; however, you will need two parts of gelatin for one piece of xanthan gum. It is a fantastic choice for baked goods like pieces of bread and many more things, though; given that most gelatin makes from pigskin, it is inappropriate for everyone to observe halal dietary practices. Egg whites

Agar-agar is deriving from red algae. It acts much like unflavored gelatin. However, it is thickening a dish and forming a jelly-like texture. Because it’s plant-based, agar-agar is a great vegan replacement for gelatin. It is typically selling as flakes, sheets, or powder. Hence, a person can efficiently use this substitute for xanthan gum. As a result, it proves beneficial.  You can also replace xanthan gum with agar in a 1:1 ratio.
