Deanna Deveney has always had a soft spot for those who are vulnerable and not able to advocate for themselves. Deanna is a Massachusetts native who has been successful in her career and assisting multiple municipalities and counties as a lawyer, communications, and government affairs professional. After graduating from high school, she completed her undergraduate studies at Curry College, in order to stay busy during her free time in college, she worked at the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office where she learned about everything from human resources to civil procedure. Through her valiant work ethic and rigorous academic training, Deanna had prepared herself to obtain her JD Massachusetts School of Law. During this time, she would explore further extracurricular activities, including the Justinian Law Society, Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Massachusetts School of Law Veteran’s Association which helped her establish her network into what it is today.
Always a proponent of Military Veterans, Deanna led the charge in raising funds to erect a flagpole outside of the Massachusetts School of Law alongside her veteran colleague to commemorate the sacrifice and valor of the country’s brave veterans. While her education as an attorney and experience at the District Attorney’s Office started her career,, her path led her towards communications, public relations, and government affairs; primarily to concentrate on prevention rather than prosecution.
From Reaction to Proaction
If you were to ask Deanna Deveney why she entered the legal profession, her response would be to help those who are the most vulnerable. One of the pivotal factors of her role was to review crime rate statistics and formulate plans for their recovery, engaging with key stakeholders. Furthermore, Deanna Deveney would put those plans into action, through the myriad achievements she has made in the county of Middlesex, and Massachusetts as a whole.
Through her time at the DA office, she realized that her true passion lay in the field of public relations and communications. What started as a way to help those in need, eventually developed into a mindset that sought to prevent issues before they arose, rather than tackle them head-on when they have already occurred. Deanna has led a professional career in communications, both as a Communications Director and Government Relations Director. She loves the challenge of taking vague ideas and abstract concepts and creating an effective plan of action that has applicable benefits.
Deanna remains most proud of the communications strategy she developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She spearheaded the efforts within the City of Everett with the implementation of a communications strategy in a majority-minority community that boasts over 60,000 residents. While the situation of the pandemic was unforeseen and unpredictable, Deanna and her team created to execute a successful campaign ranging from food insecurity to vaccination and COVID19 testing in the community. The campaign provided the materials in 4 different languages ensuring that all residents were able to understand and receive the benefits the City of Everett was offering. This meant financial assistance, healthcare, accessibility to supplies and food, and overall municipal services.
Mindset Dictates Lifestyle
Deanna is a huge advocate for caring for your own mental health. During her professional and personal life, she still finds time to put her mental and physical health at the forefront of her day. She believes that yoga, meditation, walks along the ocean and community involvement have given her the tools necessary to build a place of fortitude within her perspective.
